Thursday Mishaps

I shouldn't use the breadmaker on Thursdays.

Tommy has class Thursday evenings at 6:15pm. This means dinner needs to be ready pretty close to when he gets home from work.

Last week I remembered he had class. I wanted to make ham and pineapple pizza with homemade dough. I use the breadmaker's dough setting so I don't have to kneed. I fiddled around with the breadmaker trying to figure out the delay setting because I was going to visit a friend and wouldn't be back until close to 5pm. I had given up and decided to start the cycle and just let the dough sit risen for a couple hours when the delay worked. Hurray!

I got home pretty much at 5pm which isn't a big deal because pizza only takes a few minutes to prepare and about 12 to bake. I thought it smelt alot like bread when I got home. That's because I baked a loaf of pizza crust. Whoops. Apparently I didn't have the setting right after all.

We ended up eating at Taco Cabana. Where Daniel and I waited for 30 minutes after eating for the rain to let up before we headed home. Tommy couldn't wait and sat through most of class wet.

Tonight I forgot Tommy had class. I was running behind on preparing dinner. And I'm pretty sure I only used 2 1/4 cups of flour in a 3 1/4 cup recipe for focaccia bread. And I forgot to buy fresh tomatoes for bruschetta but was willing to substitute canned until I opened the can. Lots of seeds and mushiness (great for salsa, not so much for bruschetta). I also forgot broccoli to add to the pasta.

I collected my wits and decided on what I thought was a decent plan. We'd put Daniel to bed at 7pm and eat a nice late dinner just the two of us! I'd force a rise out of the bread, use the less than perfect tomatoes and just nix the broccoli. Then Tommy reminded me about his class.

So we went to Whataburger. We debated over which one to go to. He wanted to go to the one on Seminary Dr, but I told him the one on Altamesa was closer. The light at Altamesa was backed up about 5 times longer than I'd ever seen. Whoops. We made it with about 15 minutes for Tommy to order and eat.

Maybe next Thursday we'll just have peanut butter and jelly. On anything but homemade bread.

  1. I'm sorry it hasn't worked out the last couple of weeks, though I must say in your defense that all of the other dinners of the week have been fantastic.

Also, while the focaccia may not have turned out how you wanted, or when you wanted it,I still enjoyed it for a snack last night and breakfast this morning :) Yum!

  2. What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
